Astrocytoma symptoms

In particular cases, different astrocytoma symptoms may occur in the patient. Although this is not a comprehensive list, it is meant to briefly cover some possibilities. Please keep in mind that a patient may have an astrocytoma despite lacking any symptoms in this article, and also may have these symptoms due to a different condition and not have an astrocytoma. Also remember that this information is not meant to be a substitute for qualified assistance or advice.

Double vision

Also called diplopia, this is viewing two images of one object at one time. They may be viewed in different directions relative to each other, for instance, one image may be above the other, or beside it, or even diagonal from it. Like the other symptoms mentioned here, it can be caused by other conditions. For instance, in strabismus, the eyes do not align with each other, and therefore two images may be seen by the individual. Other eyesight problems may also be present in an astrocytoma.

Lethargy

This is a general sense of fatigue, in which the patient has an awareness of exhaustion. Many other causes of this symptom are possible, including working (or overworking), mental stress, jetlag, boredom, depression, lack of sleep, vitamin and mineral deficiencies, and also different diseases.

Seizures

A seizure involves a quick electrical activity surge in the patient's brain. If related to an astrocytoma then it is not necessarily the same as epilepsy, which is considered recurrent seizures which are not provoked. Some alternate potential causes include sleep deprivation, head injury, certain infections like meningitis and encephalitis, hypoglycemia, multiple sclerosis (rarely experienced as a symptom), and others.
